Help with new chick

Aww!! I'm so sorry you lost you wee one!! I also would suggest some electrolytes, even for your other healthy gals/guys to just give them a boost. You can get like 3 packets at tractor supply for like $2.99? Sorry we couldn't help sooner for the little gal!! ((hugs))

Yeah we have draft horses :) I usually get mine at TSC - why a bred do you recommend as far a egg production ? I have black austrolorps and rode island reds as of now but I'm hoping to get some more in a few days .....

We have Quarter Horses & Paints. As for layers, you can never go wrong with the RIRs. I really like my Barred Rocks, Delawares and Sussex. They are all great dual-purpose birds. I've never had any Australorps, I do have Orpingtons though. Pretty bird's!

Yeah I may get some of those :) we work are horses and pull with them do you do barrel racing ?

Thanks! Cackle's directions said not to give electrolytes on the first day. Is that just being overly cautious? I have them, just didn't want to harm them. This is my first time having chickens...

No barrels, ours are all cowhorses. Ranch work, cutting, roping, sorting, penning etc.

I don't know their reasoning, but mine get the stuff in the water from the start. I gradually reduce it to twice a week. That's just my personal experience though, I'm not a vet or pro-chickeneer. :)

That's cool ! We had a quarter horse that did a lot if ranch work :) she is retired now but she was one of my favorites :)

I get holding it off cause a lot of time people do not read the instructions and make the electrolytes incorrectly for chicks, or if the electrolytes make the water taste bad the chicks might not drink when they should, but if you have chicks show up that seem stressed or ailing, the electrolytes can really be helpful for the boost they need in the given circumstance.
