Trying to figure out the gender of our 2 Pekin ducks. They are 9 weeks old in the picture. We think 1 of them possibly could be a drake. Frito in the back of the pic is slightly larger, has a quiet quack. Dorito ( in the front ) is VERY loud :) Dorito also has a rounder head and squintier eyes. The weird thing is, both of their bills are the same color orange. We had two Pekin in the past, there was a noticeable difference in the coloration of the bill between the male and female.

Another question, I heard that you need at least 8 :eek:females per male or else the male will injure the lone female☹️
Hopefully this is not the case. Guess I should have done my research beforehand.

The duck in the back is male. You can see that he's starting to grow his tail curl. The other is female.

Some ducks do ok in pairs. You'll have to wait for spring to know how well he treats her.
I sure hope they are part of that "some" 🙂 2 is plenty !
