I have had chickens before, all are gone now but I had them in outside pens which are also gone. My neighbor has chickens he shows and he lets them roam so he got pretty mad when my rooster went to his house when I used to have them. So letting them out free range isn't much of an option.

I have a building out back, its insulated and has power, but it has a wooden floor. Can I keep my chickens in it for fall/winter or will they need time outside also?

I dont have any chickens yet, going to look at some in 2 weeks at a animal swap event.

It is not recommended to keep chickens inside a building all the time. They need sunshine to make vitamins, and will spend their days foraging if they can. Trying to keep them indoors can easily lead to pecking and even cannibalism. A building would also need to have good ventilation so the humidity and ammonia they put out can escape.
