Help with rusted gifts

Ok my brother gave me 7 wire animal crates with pull out trays. The problem is that he had rabbbits in them for a while and well one corner on the floor of all of them has a rust covering . I'm assuming that it was a urinating corner. The wire is still strong but, is there a way to clean it up and add some kind of protection?

Depending on how bad the rust is, you can use a wire brush to try to scrape it down to remove the rust, perhaps squirting a little WD-40 as you go.

Then seal it out with some Rust-Oleum.

I will try that. It seems like surface rust. The bottom wire is still strong and just looks discolored.

brillo pads work well, CLR will remove light surface rust.

Yup - a little elbow grease followed up by a fresh paint job should do the trick. Those crates are spendy so congrat on the gift!
