I hatch mine the same as chicken eggs now. They do much better and last year I watched one of my gals hatch her brood and they were very dry, even up to hatch day.

Jean...details please!

I just put them in the incubator the same as my chickens eggs. They take longer to hatch, but everything else, I do the same. And, I've been really bad at turning them, they get turned once a day, maybe once every other day.

Humidity around 45-50 until they pip and then I really don't guage the humidty by the meter, but put two humidity pads in the water pail.

So for those of you who don't do anything different than chicken eggs, how is your hatch rate?
I have a Sebbie egg waiting to hatch today. We are on day 28 and there has been an internal pip. How long is that baby ok before needing the oxygen that comes form external pip? At this point I dont want to lose it, and it is nerve racking to sit an wait and wonder if it will need any help.

Upon candling last night there was movemnt and even chirping. This morning much LESS movemnt, and I haven't heard chirping.

What should I do at this point?

Whatever you do, DO NOT help it! If the gosling can't hatch on it's own then it would most likely die anyways. They do take a really long time to hatch as compared to chicken eggs, so sit on your hands and hope for the best! I just went through my first hatch with goose eggs, and it was nothing to be proud of but I learned a whole lot. I think I had too much humidity, so now I am keeping the humidity at about 35% and so far everything is looking MUCH better with this batch!

I have a PIP! Yay! You know how they say a watched pot never boils? Well, a watched egg PIPS, as it feels the pressure of the eyes! LOL
I have never actually watched an egg pip. It was weird as I heard it crack, very loud. Anyway, I feel better now. Am looking for something to distract myself with as I wait for the process!

So is 80% humidity too high at hatch? I was worried about them getting enough oxygen. Should I have the vents open or closed at this point?

THANK YOU so much for responding!

How soon does a baby gosling stand up? And also how long before they need food and water. Mine is about 7 hours old and still quite wet in the incubator. Any advice from this point on would be helpful! Thank you!

Congrats on your gosling!!! Just like chicks, they can go for days without food or water right after hatching. No worries. You can leave him in there until he's dry and/or all the eggs have hatched -- whichever comes later -- and then take him out and get him some food and water.

Humidity should be at 80% the last 3 days and vents open.(Cottage Rose)

The vents to allow fresh air in at hatch-I'm finding that important! At least one vent should be open. I have read much advice to the contrary!
