This chicken is most likely a mixed breed, because the egg came from a mixed flock, but it is possible that is a full breed. The breed that I think it comes from is a Golden Cuckoo Maran. Both the female and the male look very similar in early stages. This chick is now 45 days old. I have looked at feathers, feet, eye color which is not a true color for a Golden Cuckoo Maran (reddish normally), and I still cannot tell. It is not aggressive to me or my husband. But we have younger chicks that it will pick on. Since Golden Cuckoo Maran have little differences in looks early on, I need ASAP if it is a rooster. I am quite fond of it already. It is so healthy and lovely soft feathers.

I tend to agree that Asia is a cockerel. But now I need to know if Peepers is a Cockerel. So help with this set of images. Asia is a mix. I think Asia is part Golden Cuckoo Maran and something else. Alot of gold running through the barring. Peepers is also a mix and seems to be part white crested black polish. Peepers is just now at 7.5 weeks getting small white feathers in the crown area. The white feathers are rounded so I am hoping that this means female. She had uppity tail feathers when younger, but not so much now as they are getting longer. She is lean. That is another reason I thought she was male at first. But does not have the temperament of Asia and has a higher trill call. I think the Polish breed are hard to tell sex early from what I have read. The comb is small and pinkish gray.
