Help with sick hen needed - Sad Update last pg...

I went through something similar like this a few months ago with a JG rooster. It was confirmed E coli, no parasites. I gave him aureomycin, metronidazole, corid and baytril with probiotics over a 3 week period. I turned him over to a BYC friend and he was tube fed twice a day with special feed, nutri drench and probiotics combined with baytril to no avail and he eventually had to be culled after a month of treatment. I also suspected an organ failure as well but I didnt want a necropsy done. His poop was bright yellow/green diarrhea. E coli bacteria is normally held in check within the gut flora...sometimes it gets out of control (as in my case) due to stressors or possible organ failure. It was a tough loss for me as well as for my BYC friend.

:( it was a sad night here last night... I had just come in to post that I would probably lose her this night, but she started passing away as I was typing so I had to get off. Her head was back, eyes closed, and she had labored breathing. I moved her head forward trying to make her more comfortable but it kept going back to the same spot.. Then she vomited, which is normal for all bodily fluids to be expelled in the time of death. After a few squacks and muscle spasms, she was gone and no longer suffering... I am so sad though, she was such a sweet girl, and I really really enjoyed her.

She was warm in the house, right next to me in her time of passing. May she RIP.. My only sweet Brahma girl..

And at least now she is out of any pain or suffering she was in. I have lost chickens before, but it doesn't matter. Any animal that is going through any stress or discomfort, I feel it right in my core.. Only with animals and children.. My Mom said it's because they are vunurable and I am naturally just.. Really don't want any kid or animal to ever suffer. So watching her pass was hard, but I stayed with her. I am just glad she is in chicken heaven now, and I hope she has all the treats she could ask for

It was sad this morning just letting out Munk, Joon and Butternut. They are all acting totally fine and normal, happy and healthy, but poor Butternut is now the "third wheel" because her and Monica were really close. I will have to find her another buddy this spring.
