Hi friends, I had to assist 4 of my ducklings out of their shells, 3/4 came out ok but the loudest an most fussy of them all still has its umbilical attached and I dont want to separate it for fear of bleed out. I currently have him tucked in the shell in a tea cup under lights. Suggestions going forward? PS this wasnt suppose to happen! The incubator went flaky halfway through our process an they ended up late.

I had on do this yesterday. I just left in incubator (not sure if option for you) he was the only one in there as to not let any others trample him. It eventually fell off on its own. He does have spraddle leg but I think that’s either because I assisted to early or egg malposition as he was never in a slippery floor. If incubator no longer an option confined with good footing and source of heat and time

Hi friends, so he went back into the bator reluctantly, but the cord detached hours later. He is now in the heated brooder with its mates, but heres the problm. We are day 3 an he keeps his left leg tucked up and wont use it. He wont spread out the webbing and will typically fall over when trying to walk. He is eating and drinking an today we tried a little warm bath to see if he would try to swim but nope. Is it too late for Niacin?? Should I hobble? How do I check for hip/joint injury, should I put a little tape on webbing to spread it so he can balance better, augh! He’s such a fighter I dont want to let this guy down. 😥

Can you please post a picture of the leg and can you extend it all the way like the other one? Just want to rule out perosis. You can put tape on the foot and see if that helps but it will need to extend the leg. so lets rule out slipped tendon first.

Ok, I will try that, trying to post a video

Ok his webbing can be spread without him crying but the leg where it bends seens to be the culprit. I can gently pull down at the top of the leg where it meets his body but half way down at the joint is where he has it bent and doesnt want to release it to straighten...
