so I was going to wait till fall to worm my chickens as the two older Orpingtons are laying eggs. However some of my pullets are only 12-19 weeks old (various breeds but only 10 chickens in all) and now I just saw what looks like could be tapeworms in my new gooses poop so I’m wanting to go ahead and worn them (10 chickens 2 geese) the problem I have is I keep reading back and forth on opinions about which wormer to use. I know Wazine is highly recommended but it’s raining here constantly and my chickens are free range so they can get in the goose pond and whatever puddles for water instead of drinking their own yet again same issue with the geese. I’ve got some valbazen I use on my goats and then I’ve read some people love the verm-x all natural stuff you don’t have to toss eggs with. Can someone please give me some advice on what wormer I can chic

I would only treat the goose if the birds are not infected. Treating birds not effected, is not wise. For one thing, it is a treatment, not a preventive. Another thing is, the treatment becomes useless against strains when used in excess.
Also WAZINE only treats ROUND WORMS. Not tape worms. When we get worms, which is few and far, we use safe guard. It is a broad spectrum dewormer.
I wish stores would stop stocking Wazine all together.

Post a photo of the poop.

It’s raining hard here so I don’t have a picture of the poop. The chickens stay around the geese is the problem and the only reason I’m treating them. I’ve not worked them yet and I’ve had them for months because I feel the same about not treating unless there’s an infestation. I’ve actually been told by a friend of mine that’s a vet that safeguard is not good for tape worms in poultry but valbazen is why I wanted to go with using it. I have both it and safeguard I alternate my goats with. And yes I read that about the Wazine after I posted I just always see people swearing you have to use something gentle with a first time worm but what’s the point of gentle if it’s not effective? Plus with them being free range in the yard it would be hard for me to use Wazine if I wanted to because I can’t control where they drink water especially with it raining here like it is for the next 6-8 days. I will try to find another poop picture I can post hopefully the goose will go on the porch where the water won’t wash it away. Have you used pumpkin seeds in their diet for prevention?

If you want to treat your geese and chickens for tapeworms I suggest you get something with praziquantel in it, like Equimax horse paste. It has praziquantel and ivermectin and it's the praziquatel that most effective in treating tapes.
Equimax poultry tapeworm dose is ~0.033 ml per 10 pounds orally. Repeat in 10-14 days.

I’ve heard of using that as well. I’ll give that a try thank you both so much for your help. I always see people arguing back and forth about it and never know which route to go with for sure. I guess as long as it’s safe and works. But I’ll def try the Equimax thank you again!

If I were going to treat for tapes that is what I would use. If you are interested I can show you veterinary sources that say to praziquantel for tapes, the praziquantel dose for tapes, and how I calculated the dose. :D

I trust your knowledge I’ve seen the Equimax suggestion and I like the idea of it because the ivermectin and praziquantel together make a broad spectrum for coverage. I really really do appreciate the help

Let me ask you this though how do you recommend measuring and giving such a tiny dose to my pullets? Their prob only 3-4lbs. The older buff orps are prob 5lbs so half the 0.033ml I have two one year one laying english orps that are probably around 7-8lbs
