HELP!!!

Thank you @Amiga I think they are stars

@Miss Lydia I originally started this thread because of the problem with Bukowski's legs. As a duckling B's legs have always been spread quite far apart. I only found out recently that B most likely has a niacin deficiency and have since been using traditional yeast in their food and giving B warm baths in the hope his legs get some more strength in them.

It is quite hard to get a decent photo of B but I will try on a different surface. Ed on the other hand is more than happy to show off for the camera.

They are both nine weeks old and Ed was one of the larger ducklings out of the original paddling. Is there anything that will determine gender in terms of their behaviour?

Not really at 9 weeks other than size a drake at 9 weeks will be larger than a female . I'm sorry I did go back but I guess not far enough. I hope you start to see B's legs strengthen warm baths and B yeast is a good way to help. Is your Traditional yeast like Nutritional yeast people grade?

The yeast is a people one. Do you think this will be okay or would the niacin tablets in the water work better?

I have started to see an improvement and am very happy for it. B is a little more active and seems to really enjoy the water baths. I also think that B understands I am trying to help and appreciates this. I have come to realise how sensitive these two are.

I use Nutritional yeast which sounds about what you have, mine lists Niacin on the side as 370% I think what your using is fine especially if your already seeing improvement, that is awesome. They are such sweet birds.

Hi everyone

Bukowski had started to deteriorate over the last week so I decided to best form of action was to take him to the vet.

The vet believed that he had a neurological condition he had from birth and that he was slowly losing control of his muscles and his eyesight. We decided that the kindest thing to do was put my little dragon to sleep. He is now out of pain and we buried him in the backyard.

I wanted to thank everyone for their kindness and help.

Our other duck, Ed is missing him and a little withdrawn at the moment. We will eventually find another friend for her. She is an 11 week old Muscovy so would we need to introduce a duck of similar age and breed?

Also, what can we do in the meantime to comfort her?

Regards,

Pussy Willow

Very sorry to hear about Bukowski. We've tried the unbreakable mirror and the teddy bear. Neither seemed to do much in my opinion. Spend as much time with her as you can afford. She may not act it but in their own way will appreciate it.

RIP to your little trooper and best wishes to you and Ed.

Troy & Tina

Some ducks respond well to the unbreakable mirror, so I would give it a try. I think as close to similar age and breed as possible should help, but sometimes ducks form unexpected friendships. There is the Free Rehoming forum you can check on as well as here, and Craig's List, and local sources.
