I never thought of myself as a chicken owner. Recently my neighbors hen has ran away from home and taken up residence in my lillies. She has now laid 9 eggs. The neighnor does have a rooster and does not care she ran away. So now I have a hen and 9 eggs. She sits on her nest all day but goes home in the evenings. What do i heed to do keep her happy lonpg enough for the eggs to hatch??????

Hi, if your neighbour does not have a rooster, then the eggs are not fertile. I'd suggest getting rid of the eggs, since she has been sitting on them and you don't know for how long.

Glad you joined us! If she's not sitting on the eggs overnight, they will either be harmed by the cool down period, or not viable any more. Either way it's best to discard them. I've had a similar situation with a broody years ago and it ended badly. Most of the chicks that did hatch, did not make it.
