my dad brought me a baby chick yesterday it looks to only be about a week or two old its a light yellow with black and white tips on its wings, it was very energetic yesterday but today it only wants to keep its eyes open and when i pick it up it would throw its head back and forth a couple times before seeming to doze off i decided to give it a little bit of sugar water and warm it up its still just sleeping is tht normal? and i cant go to any pet food stores to get actual food the only bird food have is for the cliche parrots and i dont think thts sutable for a baby chick any ideas of food i can give it tht may be in my house? thankyou for reading and ur help

The chick is probably very hungry. You need to buy it chick starter, put it under a heatlamp, give it water, and let the little guy sleep. You could give it bread, but what it needs it chick starter. It could also use two or three buddies. If you can't give it these things, then it would probably be best to give it to someone who has chickens and can raise it properly. Are you planning on raising a flock? If not, then it will need someone who plans to or already has a flock.

if it is like that, I would recommend getting a toothpick, cutting the pointy end off, soaking some bread in water, and feeding it that, by ways of opening it's mouth and putting the bits of bread in. Once it starts eating on it's own again, find something healthier

okay thankyou the chick was randomly found in my backyard without anyone else. Do you think places like petssmart would take it from me?

Parrot food definitely isn't suitable for a chick, but the scrambled egg suggestion is a really good one, break it up real small and you can also encourage it to peck at it by "pecking" with your finger and making a little "oooh ooooh" noise, like a chicken feeding another member of it's flock. What is the set-up you have it in at the moment? Do you want someone else to take it from you?

i have it in a box filled with shreded tissue and i have it under a lamp but i watch it just in case it gets to hot and ill move it around to warm up different parts of its body i fed it a very small piece of bread dipped in warm water and now its moving its beak up and down like its eating but it isnt *it ate the first piece but wont eat any more*

That sounds okay to me, make sure there is enough space in the box so the chick can move out of the heat if it needs to. They're very good at seeking out heat when they need it so don't worry too much about moving it around to warm up different parts of its body.
If half the box is warm (and you can feel the warmth when you put your hand in) and half is cooler that's what the chick needs, if you leave the lamp be it will also learn to go to it when it wants heat.
Does it have a little bowl of water in there with it? It's a good idea to put some marbles or clean pebble in with the water so it won't drown.
You really do need to get some chick crumb, get some off Amazon and get it posted to you quickly. For now, you can use scrambled egg, or dry out a little slice of brown bread on the radiator and crumble that up, that will be a nice way to get it used to eating something similar to the crumb you'll move it onto.
It might want lots of cuddling and comfort like any other baby. I once got given two chicks who were the only survivors from a whole flock killed by foxes. They wouldn't even raise their heads, they were so traumatised. On the second day I managed to get them eating and they grew into adulthood, but they wouldn't have made it without lots and lots of mothering.
