Hatching

Hello All,
I have a situation and am hoping someone can help. I have a goose egg that has been cracked/broken. It has a hole in it big enough that I can see that the membrane is still intact and the baby goose is alive. It moves and peeps. The egg is on day 31 ( this is a Dewlap Toulouse ). It is in the incubator where it is warm enough but not sure about the humidity level ( averages 60 to 63% ). I just don't know what to do. Should I let it go? Will it hatch okay on it's own? Any help would be geatly appreciated!

I believe most goose eggs hatch somewhere between 30-35 days, so I feel your little goose will be alright. However, I’m not super experienced with geese, so someone please correct me if I’m wrong. Best of luck! :)

You should give it 24 hours before you even think about helping. Has it made a hole for fresh air? Where is the crack?

The hole is near the top ( big end/air pocket ) of the egg. I am not sure what happened as to why that hole is in it. Can it make a hole in the shell if it hasn't broken the membrane yet?

I would. Enlarge the hole and pull the membrane back. Is it dry and leathery? Give it a big enough hole to free the bill. It should become active immediately. Might need to provide a strategic crack so it can free itself.

It does respond with a peep if I talk to it. I am just so worried as I have read that if I break the membrane it could start bleeding. The membrane looks kind of like light grey paper.

If you see blood, you immediately stop. It pipped 2 days ago. It's having trouble breaking the shell or it isn't positioned properly. It's going to run out of energy soon. I'm not going to get this close to the finish line and give up.

Okay, so should I do this under a heat lamp? Should I put it back in the incubator or leave it in the box with the heat lamp to dry properly? I have never hatched goslings before so I am just worried. I would hate to be the cause of it not making it.
