Good Morning! I have an odd question. We had two of our hens killed by a neighbors dog and she wants to reimburse us for the hens, we have no idea how much to ask for. One was a year and a half old chinese silkie and the other was a 2 year old blue cochin. We are very upset about all of this. the Silkie was my grandsons. Any help you could give would be appreciated.

Welcome! :yesss: We are glad you joined our flock!
Jump right in and make yourself at home.
I am sorry for your loss.
I don't think one can put a price on a pet.
I would ask the neighbor to invest their money into keeping their dogs in their own yard.

We still have 8 of the ladies, and we have decided they can NOT leave their home anymore unless our dog is out watching over them. We love our babies and are devastated, we have had hens at our home for over 4 years and we would never get rid of them. The neighbor has stated the dogs have never gotten out before and I have no reason not to believe her. The Blue Chinese Silkie was my grandsons and he is just heartbroken that "bawk bawk" is not there anymore. We are already on the hunt to help him pick out a new friend.

Hello and welcome to BYC. Please read up on integration before adding to our flock.

I would ask the neighbor to purchase some replacement chicks of the same breed sexed if possible or number of unsexed chicks.

Depending on where you are will change how much the birds are worth. Were both hens? Of course as pets you can't put a price on them.
