Help! This is my first time incubating chicken eggs and I’m freaking out! Today is day 21 and I have lots of eggs starting to pip. One of the eggs pipped this morning and the membrane is broken through, it has turned a darn brown colour and I’m worried the chick is having problems. I can see it moving around in there. Should I just leave it?! My humidity has been sitting at 70% for the whole lockdown.

I think it looks ok we will wait for others to chime in but I would wait a while longer. I know it's hard to wait trust me I hatch all the time and its pure torture waiting for the eggs to hatch. Just sit in your hands and check on it even hour or so. What I do if a chick is struggling is start by widening the hole but if there's any blood or membrane isn't ready then I stop leave it for a few hours and try again widening the hole and going in a circle around the egg till it's a full split egg. But then again its only been 7 hours wait a while longer.

If your worried its not alive then take the egg quickly and tap on the egg with your fingernail and if it cheeks then put it back in the bator.

Leave it alone for at least 24 hours. Your humidity is good, the membrane looks white which is how it should be. If the chick has not begun to zip in 24 hours from pip, look at the membrane again and see if it is a kind of parchment color indicating that it is drying out. At that point, post again with pics. and it may be time to assist. Don't do anything with the egg yet. It may have hatched already at the time I am posting this.:fl

Yes! Out of the original 40, I took 5 out that were infertile. 10 have hatched so far and lots of pips! I am so excited. Being this was my first time I was extremely nervous I would mess something up.
