HELP!

[Birds Buns and Pigs]

I've been incubating some quail eggs that were meant to hatch yesterday, They are from a grocery store. I just decided to have a peek in the incubator and the one that I thought was fertile has a yellowish puddle around it! What's happened?

It's cracked and leaking? Perhaps the chick piped and drowned. If on investigating you see there was indeed life and you had all that goo then your incubating humidity was far too high. Try 30-35% RH for incubating then up last few days to 70% RH.

I cracked it open and there was just disgusting black slime inside

I didn't think eggs from the store would be fertile?

It rotted.

Next batch crack an egg open before incubating and confirm if fertile or not.
