i have 6 ducklings and a loose dog from somewhere in my neighborhood attacked my ducklings, one is missing, one is dead :( and another one is injured, with a puncture hole right above his right leg, and on his bag, I did clean him and the wounds and put Neosporin On both and gauze and wrapped him up, he’s not walking right now but I think the little guy is in shock, I’m going to keep him in side for a couple days till he’s walking again but I have never had ducks before and I’m just really worried about him and if we will be ok? So please any advice on what to do from here to make sure he will be ok would be wonderful thank you

Don't let him get lonely. I had a duckling get snatched by a crow. Ended up getting dropped. Washed and neosporined the punctures from the claws. Made sure it ate overnight and then gave it back to mama the next day. Grew up nice and healthy. It did take longer to mature because its growth was stunted because of healing instead of growing.

If he's potentially in shock, be sure to keep him warm and quiet, and administering electrolytes may help combat the stress he's experienced.

How did the dog get to your ducklings? You'll want to ensure they're secure when outdoors in the future to avoid another incident of this nature. I have my ducklings outside during daylight hours in a tractor constructed of 2x4s wrapped in 1" rabbit wire, with a metal roof secured with a steel carabiner. You may want to consider a heavy duty pen or tractor if you have predators (including loose dogs).

Best of luck with your duckling's recovery!

Thank you all very much, he’s noticeable doing better this morning! Where I’m at I did not expect a loose dog, no predators come around here like that so I thought they would be secure but no, so I am getting together a more secure pin but they stay inside at night time

That's great to hear! Please keep us posted on his recovery.

Unfortunately, you have to "expect the unexpected" with predators - a secure pen for daytime should help give you some peace of mind, too. :)
