So I rescued a few batches of chicks at a store where they would have certainly died. Several did not make it. I love them but have 2 roosters in the bunch. One I was able to rehome with a friend but he is picked on by the hens there and she has a rooster that she has not introduced him to. I am picking him up soon because it seems like this will be a terrible situation for him. He is a silver dorking and I have 3 silver dorking hens that he was raised with here. I am worried what to do with him. I refuse to give him to a bad home. I also have 3 silver laced cochins one of which is a roo. He is still here....no takers yet. I am wondering if anyone has luck keeping them in the city? Can you keep them in the house? I love them and hate to see them suffer. Any suggestiosn?

Can you try Craigslist and do home visits before placement? It sounds like you're invested so I'm thinking this would have the farthest reaching audience.

You could also contact local vets and co-op/TSC and ask if you could hang a flier?

Best of luck! :fl

If you're trying to find him a home here placing your location in your profile or in the post is very helpful. I myself have alwasy wanted Dorkings but they always seem to be sold out everywhere.
Thanks! I am seriously willing to transport him to the perfect home if it appears. This is a WONDERFUL breed and in short supply. He is such a sweet, sensitive boy. I want him to have the perfect home if it doesn't work here.

I am in no way a chicken expert, but I believe you may be over thinking this.
My young rooster was picked on by the hens as well. Then one day he realized he was a rooster and almost immediately put a stop to it.
Dorkings are not exactly little roosters so with a bit of intervention on owners part till he realizes who he is, I would suspect like my Rodger did, he will soon be taking care of his business.
