I am incubating quail I got from my work. I have 2 remaining, 1 I think has died and the other has pipped and I can see the beak (pipped around 11am-12pm) my partner got home around 3ish and said it was moving a bit... but I can’t see anymore movements now? Is it normal for the egg to be completely still??

@Kiki hatches coturnix. I've never done them. I'm guessing it's just resting and absorbing the rest of it's yolk. What's your temp and humidity been?

I haven't ever incubated coturnix quail but I have incubated button quail. And that's what happened to my quail, it only made a hole and stopped pecking. So I decided to help it. The chicks got shrink wrapped and I ended up saving 4 out of 5. Just gotta be careful when helping, so it doesnt bleed to death.

You do what you think is right. I decided to help. Other eggs were moving and had no pipes. I decided not to help and those 2 died. So it's up to you.

I think the membrane looks good. I would say leave it for now. Assisting s dangerous even if you know what you're doing. Thee chick has a much better chance by you just letting it do its thing. How many eggs did you start with? How long has your chick been externally pipped? Sometimes they just sit like that for up to a day. What day are your eggs on?

I really want to help it, I’ve been doing lots of resource on how to safely hatch them. I think I will end up doing this as I am worried about it.

temp is 37 degrees and I’ll be honest..I haven’t got a gauge to test humidity. I just added an extra bowl of water in just before lock down.. (I have another 24 eggs to go Into the incubator so I’ll defiantly get something that tells me the humidity..x

Yea. I had a hydrometer and I guess for some reason one side of the eggs got shrink wrapped and the other hatched out fine. Maybe because I put some sponges on only one side? So that's the reason i had to help.

I lost one today that did the same thing. Started pipping then poked it's beak through the hole and stopped. No movement at all for a few hours. I went with my gut and tried to help, taking small bits of shell from round the beak. It was apparent right away that it had given up and died. If you are going to help start by taking small bits of shell away just to see what is going on.
