I'm sorry about Kevin.
Is he your only chicken - do you have hens/pullets?

Sadly, I think If you are afraid of him, then it would be best to re-home him and get no more roosters.

How badly did he attack you? Got photos of him?

Thank you. He is much bigger than the photo here. He rose up almost to my face and bit the back of my leg. I never expected to have a rooster. I am only 5’1”.

Thank you for this advice. An animal rights woman told me to use a big rake and that he would be mean only for six weeks because of spring. Well, six weeks is too long.

Can you get a photo of him standing up - a whole body shot?

What do you mean he rose up almost to your face - how tall are you? Were you leaning or hovering over top of him?
Bit you on the back of the leg? Did he try to flog you or just nipped? Perhaps wanting you to give a treat? Could be a response for attention....do you normally come in with treats, hand feed, etc.?
Were you trying to entice a hen or handle another chicken when he bit you?

How much coop/run space do you have?

Really....? Use a rake? To hit him, push him back, defends yourself? Does that sound like a reasonable measure especially from an animal rights activist?
No. If you need to carry some type of "weapon" to defend yourself against a cockerel (he's 6 months, so not a rooster yet!) then you need to get rid of him. Advertise on craigslist, free to a good home. It's Spring, hopefully someone will take him. Don't get anymore roosters.

I am 5’1”. I rescued him and the hen in October. I have been very nice to him, but the hen died three weeks ago. So I got him stufffed toys which he likes. I was putting down his dish, turned to open his pet door and he bit my leg and then rose up, growling. He has a huge shed and a big enough outside area. I think it was flogging. I don’t want to be afraid of any pet. Thank you.

Sorry to hear about the hen.
Re-homing would be the thing to do.
