a duck has laid (8 so far) eggs in our yard. my sister ran outside and scared her and she left her eggs uncovered and my sister covered them up for her (so they don’t get cold?) and now i don’t think she will come back 😭😭 will she come back or are the babies going to die?

:welcome

Eggs can be left for a few hours without being totally ruined, the shell acts as insulation for the embryo, Is this a wild duck or domestic, If it's your duck I suggest you take the eggs away, domestic ducks are very prone to predators if left outside at night. If it's wild just leave the area and she will most likely return to the nest.

Oh NO!!!! You need to leave the eggs alone and go inside make sure the mother duck cannot see you she might come back to the eggs that way. And its ok she does come back right away if she does not come back by tonight you need to find someone with an incubator or get one yourself. Depending on your location you need to call you wildlife control because they might be able to take the eggs.
Good luck, Annastin

wild duck, this is year 3 of her laying eggs in the same spot. last year she didn’t even mind us picking up and playing with her babies. i think she might have just been scared by how fast my sister went outside

Leave her and her eggs alone, mallards are not to be disturbed under the Migratory Birds treaty act of 1918, when her eggs hatch leave the babies alone as well.
wait i can’t touch her babies? she didn’t care last year and let us play and them as long as we put them down after like 10 minutes. we also give her and her mate daily feedings with our outdoor flock. she even let me pet her last year while i was giving all the ducks treats. one morning she was in our shed sleeping and wasn’t even bothered by me getting food out of the shed with her in it
