If you help pull of a Tiny bit of shell and membrane (literally a little bit) will it still carry on the hatch on its own?

When we first hatched out chicks over 10 years ago, I remember (not realising you shouldn't intervene!) slightly aiding a chick hatch after it spent days trying to do so itself - the chick survived to tell the tale! I think it also depends if you have accidentally ripped its delicate skin or not - is there quite a bit of blood and is the chick still moving?
