Help!

Yesterday was day 25 so we did the float test and the egg wobbled, I made a small hole in the air sac, and we noticed that it looked shrink wrapped. So very slowly we made the hole larger. There are still big veins over the chick and it seems small to me? How is this possible on day 25? I put some coconut oil on the membrane to keep it moist, but I don’t know what else to do?

I’m not really sure that it was ready. Chicks incubation time can be 18-28 days depending on the incubators temperature.

You should just put him in the incubator and wait for his hatching. Please don't disturb the baby because he's very vulnerable at this time. Raise the humidity and lets hope for the best.

I agree with the others that she is not ready yet. Now that you have the shell opened up, you will need to make sure to keep the membrane moist with periodic applications of coconut oil. Other than that... just be patient. She still has a ways to go yet. BTW, I'm pretty new at this having only hatched once. I did have to assist that hatch with a couple of the chicks but certainly take my advice with that in mind. Others here with much more experience will hopefully chime in.

I think the membrane should be kept moist with water rather than the coconut oil. Oil may block the transport of oxygen from outside to the veins. Just spray it with warm boiled water. Just a spray, not too much.
