Help!

Hens may be a bigger handful than roosters because you have to regularly get eggs from them, but chickens in general are low-maitnence (please forgive my horrible spelling).

Very possible :( But he is young. Motherofhens guessed 3-4 months+

That makes sense. A lot of people don't want roosters so probably as soon as they could tell, he was locked out and left to fend for himself. That drives me crazy; it's so irresponsible and inhumane. Chickens can't fend for themselves or survive many unprotected nights and they shouldn't be alone.

If you are really committed to keeping him, and you don't care about getting eggs, I would check craigslist/equivalent and get another boy or two to keep him company. People are going to have a lot of boys to get rid of around now, so they should be free. That way he has company and you are saving another life.
If you get hens for company for him, they'd be expensive, and you'd need more like 3 or 4, so they don't get over-mated.
Roosters can be jerks but more often they are wonderful and entertaining pets, who have a lot to say and help prevent rodent problems.
If you only have a couple you don't need to go crazy on a real coop, just a basic small cage where they can perch safely at night, then you can let them out in the morning.

Poor guy :( People suck.
Thank you very much for the info!

Mmmm... 😕 Though anything is possible on how he came to you, as a beginner -- I don't know that adding another rooster or cockerel would be what I would do first.
Chickens ARE very social, which is true, but this little guy just lost his flock, everything he knows and trusts. 🥺
(No wonder he might be a bit skittish, eh?)
If you keep a cockerel or rooster without hens, it is likely he might never feel the need to be defensive or anything. @OneHappyRooster can tell you all about bachelor pads and how amazing they are in general!
I like to tell myself if people dump animals, they do so out of stupidity rather than malice. It doesn't make it any better, but it doesn't crush the illusion I try to keep about 'Most people are good'. 😔

Poor guy :( He must be lonely. You are better than I am. I think some people just don't care.

Just out of curiosity, but would you get hens or roosters to hang out with your new roo?
I have always loved the idea of having chickens, to hang out with them, they have so much personality. And also for the eggs. I do worry though that if I got hens maybe the rooster would get aggressive. If I got roosters I worry about the crowing. I personally love it but not sure my neighbors would. They aren't really close but I don't want to be inconsiderate. Long story short, I don't know lol.
