I have 5 duck eggs in the incubator. After candling them at day 6 only one is developing. I was wondering if after the duckling hatches, šŸ¤žand it stayed inside for a bit, if i could put it with my female duck outside, as i dont want the duckling to be lonely....

Also on a side note, i have 2 khaki campbells (hen and drake) and my hen (first time layer) isn't laying on her eggs... she has 6. Is she waiting until she has more eggs to become broody?

Thanks for any help1

:welcome If the duckling hatches provide it with a mirror for company. Do not introduce it to the adult until it is larger. She may building a clutch, but not all duck hens will go broody.

Does she have to become broody to sit on and hatch the eggs?

It's worth keeping the other duck eggs for a little longer, sometimes they will be slower to develop, especially if the incubator has cool spots.
Don't introduce the duckling to an adult duck, instead give her a mirror in the brooder or purchase a duckling friend.

Best of luck!

Im skeptical about the other eggs because its day 10 and nothing seems to be happening

Is it possible to take a few eggs from moms nest seeing as she isn’t sitting yet
Then maybe you will hatch another baby or two that could be joined with the Lone duckling.
Tbey would only be a week apart and could be put together
Otherwise you would need to wait much longer to put the baby with adults.

In that case I would toss the empty eggs. By 10 you should start seeing something.
New duck mommy made a good suggestion, but being 10 days apart by now I would be hesitant to mix those ducklings. If you do have a drake, and the eggs are fertilised, then you could take a couple to hatch and let the ducklings see eachother through a barrier- better than a mirror- but you would need two incubators, two heat sources and everything. I'm not sure if 10 days is too large an age gap, perhaps it can be done with a cautious introduction but even then you would still have a severely staggered hatch. I think it would be safer/easier to buy a friend if you are able to

When I posted I didn’t realize it was 10 days I though 6
I did 2.5 weeks apart but I kept them in separate Pens but right beside each other for a few weeks. They took her in no problem after that.

Dont worry I didnt realise they were 10 days either! It could still work, but I would personally be prepared to keep them separated just in case-
I'm glad Hope is accepted now! 😁
