I have four 4-wk old chicks in a pen. Momma is back with the flock. I added Wanda who has two 1 wk old chicks this morning. She is a sweet hen.
One of the original four was looking puny and separating hisself so I was planning to take him out today to examine. When I got home for lunch I found him hanging by a thread, most of the skin missing from his head, hiding behind the dust bath. The remaining 3 seem fine but Wanda is definitely bullying them/protecting her chicks.
Will she continue to harass them? Or will it get better now that the possibly sick one is gone?
I really wanted this to be my small flock since Wanda is sweet.
Run is 8 x 12 with attached ~30 x 30 electric poultry fence but I close the run at night to keep them safe while coop is still being built. There are roosts and a nice clean nest within

Your hen is defending her babies from those outsiders. She will probably continue to harm them because her instinct is to protect her own.
Agreed. Wanda is still in protective mode. I would separate her and the babies for a few more weeks. When she has weaned them, you might be able to combine the two sets of chicks.
