One of our bantams has starting doing this thing where she will just start running around looking up and makes a high pitch squeal. What could be causing that? There isn't any predators around. She has starting making a couple of our neighbors mad. We don't want to have to take her somewhere. Any ideas or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a way you can capture this behavior on video?

When she does this, how does the rest of the flock react - do they get quiet and freeze, continue on as normal, run and hide...?

The other ones are just watching her at a distance not really doing anything. They seem more confused than anything. We can try and get it the next time she does it.

Agree that even just a pic of your setup would really help. Hope you don't have a bigger problem on your hands if neighbors don't like a chicken noise. Chickens are very noisey no matter what gender...... Could be she sees something she wants to jump up to.

My husband said the best way he can describe it is it sounds like a kids party horn with 3 sqwaks and a errr. If that makes sense.

My husband realized she only does it when she sees him. He wonders if it's hey my dad is home thing.

Here is our setup with our run from this morning. Our one hen made the load noise when I had our dog out. Normally our dog isn't out when she does it. It's like 3 loud screeching noises than she stops. Meither my husband or I ever have our phones on us when she is doing it to record it.

Is that a tarp overhead and then down part of the front? Seems like it would be really dark in there? I'm not positive if I'm looking at it right but they definitely prefer light. They will never choose the dark area over a light area because they can't see in the dark. Even when it's dusk they start having a hard time seeing.
