Is that a tarp overhead and then down part of the front? Seems like it would be really dark in there? I'm not positive if I'm looking at it right but they definitely prefer light. They will never choose the dark area over a light area because they can't see in the dark. Even when it's dusk they start having a hard time seeing.

Yes it is, we have a tarp that goes down the sides and just the one side open.

So then is it safe to say that during the day it's darker in the run and they have no way to get out into the sunlight? That's what the noise is about if so.....

Can you use clear see-through plastic instead of the tarp so that they get the natural light? They would be much happier....

It will benefit them and you if you're planning to get eggs.... Light is incredibly important to their natural cycle and health.

My husband realized she only does it when she sees him. He wonders if it's hey my dad is home thing.

Here is the noise one of our chickens makes. We finally got it. We were outside and she saw us alot.
