I think I have an egg bound chicken. Not sure. No vet around. I have tried soaking her and putting Vaseline on her for the past 3 days. She is pulling her feathers out at her hind quarters also. I don't know what else to do.

When a rump is that swollen, it appears the feathers are missing when they're just farther apart due to more skin surface. It appears to me she has a serious reproductive infection that has perhaps gone systemic. You could try her on an antibiotic if you can find one.

I agree, the bloated abdomen and the stance suggest a reproductive issue, other than egg binding. With egg binding they generally will die within 24-48 hours if there is no intervention and the egg doesn't pass. How old is she, and do you know when she last laid? Cancers and infections are not uncommon in hens over the age of two, and sometimes happen in even younger birds. Is she pooping? Is her keel bone well muscled, or is the bone very prominent?

She is just around 2. Her bone is very prominent. I am not sure when she last laid the. I have 16 and a full time job unfortunately outside of my ladies. Is it contagious? This is the second one that has had this in the past year?. Also I am not sure how i would get antibiotics with out and avian vet. Any suggestions? She is pooping a little but not as much or as usual.

Are you sure she's the one pulling her feathers? Can you put her in a dog crate or something like that so she's still around the flock but they can't get to her? Be sure she has feed, water, grit and shade. Let me tag some Educators for you. She looks miserable.
