If any livestock or poultry are kept on the premises, an appropriate building shall be provided for the keeping of such livestock or poultry. Such building shall include an attached or adjacent enclosure, either a pit or structure, visually screened from adjacent properties, to which all clearing shall be confined.

this wording was pulled from my towns website:
does this mean i cant free range my chickens once in a while, while i am home and present?
this is what i am thinking? your thoughts? thanks in advance

Yeah, that sounds like what they're talking about. I don't see what the harm is as long as you're out there with them. I do this every night with my chickens, and if I can't-I leave them in their run. This way everyone is happy (neighbors)! But, this is up to your and your conscience, I'm certainly not telling you to break the law, but if your neighbors don't mind, then shhhhhh..........

The way I read that... all it says is that you must provide a building (coop) for them. I can't see why they can't free range all the time.
Such building shall include an attached or adjacent enclosure, either a pit or structure, visually screened from adjacent properties, to which all clearing shall be confined.

This part is probably geared more for large animals. They want the waste hidden.

okay :
still unsure,, they looked so happy outside today running and eating the grass. i only let them out of their run while i am able to watch them well.
I have heard about laws and etc. after reading the posts here and went back to my towns website and checked it out again.
I know we can have chickens, as I called and spoke with someone from the town, he even left me the message on my cell phone too, which i saved for weeks, assuring my husband its alright to have them.
We are considered the country but my neighbor across the street is not a nice person(especially since he thought our main coop looked like $#@# anyways,, that was already posted on here and we all discussed it. funny he took his (for sale) sign down from his property a few weeks ago, hes probably blaming us! lol. we had purchased our house about 8 years ago,, its been renvated and all. it takes lots of time and money to do these kinds of things, and i guess he is loaded (money wise) anways i just dont want to upset anyone with my only 5 chickens in my yard, enjoying themselves! ugh!
so i dunno we will see. i just dont want problems, i can always let the girls go in the back of the house instead of the side where their coop is located then no one would ever know ive let them out. but its work bringing one by one out to the back, i can try and shoooo them over to the back,, but ya know thats alot of work too. okay yeah this is way too long. thanks for listening!
