Help!

Gosh! So much information to take in. Well, I did a littel searching online, with some mixed results, but mostly what I've found seems to say amprolium is safe for ducklings and that is all that is in the feed. I've also seen mixed info on whether to use chick starter or game bird, or whether to add Niacin, so maybe I'll stick with chick feed for now and add a little Niacin. Probably won't hurt, if I use the right amount. Anyway, the ducklings are thriving so far. I finally settled on a small Tupperware type container with a piece out of the lid for a waterer. I think they just can't get in that, although clearly they can sit on and poop.

You've got the right idea for a duckling waterer; I used a Cool Whip container with a slice cut out of the lid (when they were still little). Now I have a plastic Alhambra water bottle with holes cut in it. (Mine are six weeks old.) They've been on chick starter with the amprollium or whatever it is... with some powdered Brewer's yeast added every couple of days.

tkathleen,
I have the chick started by Nutrena and it is not medicated. I have three chicks that I am feeding that to. Today our ducks started hatching, so on Monday I am going back to the feed store to buy the Nutrena game bird starter. That has the niacin in it and I figure it would be easier than trying to figure out how much niacin to add.

It might depend on the region a person is in. For example, even Flock Raiser comes in medicated, non-medicated, crumbles, and pellets (even though those are not all listed on the Purina site).

The Nutrena Starter they have at my feed store is most definitely medicated. I used it for chicks last year, but not ducklings (used Flock Raiser for them). I thought I remembered it having Amprol in it (completely safe for ducklings), but I thought it had one other med. in it too. I don't remember on that because I have only used it this one time. You might call them to make sure what all it has in it.
