Help!!!!!!

Y'ALL ARE OVERLOOKIN 1 TEENY TINY MAJOR DETAIL.... THESE ARE BOBS NOT COTURNIX== WORLDS DIFFERENT.

QUESTION #1--- DO THEY HAVE OR ARE THEY GETTING ANY LIGHT AFTER NIGHTFALL?

#2 ARE YOU SEEING ROOS MOUNTING HENS?

#3 HOW OLD ARE THESE BIRDS?

Good reminder, JJ. Thanks! I know I forgot that when I answered. I'm sure some others did, too.

Most Likely The Main Topic On This Board Are Coturnix Quail So Its Easy To Answer From That Stand Point, But Behavior Wise The 2 Speces Are Worlds Apart... So A Coturnix Answer Is Many Time Very Wrong When Applied To Bobs. Depending On The Answers Toby Provides You May Well See What I Am Trying To Imply

You May Be Seeing Mating Damage, But Remember Bobs Are Not Coturnix...

In Adult Birds- Bob Roos Rarely Ever Get Agressive Toward Hens, If Anything They Are Very Doting And Affectionate Toward Them, While The Hens Can Get Nasty To The Roos, The Roos Simply Cower And Take It(thus The Term Hen-pecked...

).

In Adults, Bobs Are More Same Sex Agressive... Meaning Roos Will Fight Violently( Literally To The Death) Over Hens And Hens Will Be Evil Little Witches To Other Hens. Hens Will Be Agressive Towards Roos In Some Cases Tho Rare. ( I Have A Hen That Beats The Snot Out Of Every Mate I Put With Her... Have To Rotate Boys Thru Out Of The Bachelor Pen... 3 Days Time And She Will Have Them Messed Up Like A Bad Case Of Polio)

When Hens Get Agressive Toward Each Other They Chase The Victim Around Trying To Peck Her In The Back Of Her Head... After A Few Pecks She Runs For Her Life... All The While The Bully Is Still Chasing Her And Grabbing At Anything She Can Get Ahold Of (usually Pulling Out Tail Feathers And Pecking Them In The Back Just Above The Tail Feathers Directly Over The Hip Area.)

So What We Would Think Of As Agressive Breeding Injuries In Coturnix Are Very Often The Type Of Injuries We See In Hen Fights Within The Bob Speces.

I Have Pairs, Trios, And A Few Smaller Colony Pens That Run 1 To 3 Or So In Sex Ratio. I Have Hens That Show Breeding Wear... Ruffled Messed Up Feathers On Their Backs (usually Over The Hip Area) But None Have Bald Spots To Speak Of, Or Bleeding Injuries.

As Chicks/ Juveniles (during The Estabolishment Of Pecking Order) The Usual Agression Injuries Are To The Soft Fleshy Bridge Of The Nose Where The Nostrils Are, And The Ankles And Agression At This Stage Of Their Life Is Non Specific--- Everybody's Fair Game In A Grow Out Pen!

You May Have Breeding Injuries, But This Time Of Year In Your Location The Birds Would Only Be Breeding In An Artificial Environment. Most Egg Mills That Produce Eggs Year Round Are Indoors In Climate And Light Controlled Settings. Unlike Coturnix Bobs Need Temperature And Bright Light ( For Longer Periods Each Day Than Coturnix) To Trigger Breeding Cycles. Basically Its Not Likely Given The Birds Requirements That They Are Breeding Mode, And Injury With Bob Breeding Is Uncommon To Begin With, They Just Arent Overly Amorous Like Many Coturnix Roos. Plus Your Injury Patern Fits Hen Agression.
