I have a broody hen who hatched 2 eggs last Saturday , she still had 7 under her. she was sitting on them fine, so i thought. I went out there today and the eggs are cold. can i save them or are they done for?????? i have a heat lamp on them right now. just wanting to know if its a lost.

help would be great.

Once a hen hatches her first eggs she usually will get up and leave the nest a short time later. Your eggs probably didn't survive. You could try candleing them to see if you see any movement. Heat lamp will not keep the eggs evenly warm.

Don't give up. I was 2 weeks into incubation. The temp in the incubator was 78 degrees when I discovered it. I put the incubator on a battery pack with an inverter and brought the temp back up. I still had a good hatch. It takes time for the internal temperature in the eggs to cool down or heat up so I don't think that will really affect the hatch.

Have you candled the eggs? I did candle mine and saw movement. I thought they wouldn't survive but I got a surprise.

ok i Candle them, with a flash light. all but two were liquid. the two that weren't , i could not see much just the top of the egg. but it looked nothing like a chick. is that what im suppose to see??? there was no movement.

An egg with a chick in it will look very full and dark when candled. It's common not to see movement at this point because the chick is squished into the available space so tightly.

I have two that might hatch.

Can i do this with a heat lamp. that's all i got. i don't think any of my chickens will sit. and mama has the two to look after now.

here is what im thinking, what if i wrapped them in a towel like a nest. and had the heat lamp on them. that what, they stay nice and warm. do you think that will work?? also i often do i have to turn them?????
