HELP

Will my hens lay if there is not a rooster? I am under the impression I only need a rooster to fertilize the eggs. I hope so. Also I bought a chick and forgot the breed. It has since grown. I am thinking it might be a Rhode Island Red. I anyone can answer my question about the egg laying it would be appreciated!
