HELP!!!

Greetings all, I just bought a home in martinez ca. It is outside the city limits on county property. many of my neighbors have chickens up here even though we are R6 zoned.. I however have a nasty neighbor who reported me. Now I have a code violation notice. I called and they said to get rid of all my chick-i-do-do's........ Has anyone else been through this? know what the proccess is? or what would happen if I refused? Im in tears over this. The code enforcer said they dont look for chx but since its been brought to his attention he cant ignore it.......

If your out of the city what is your violation? why would you have to give them up? What the heck? Your county you can have them! What exactly is the violation your breaking? they can't do that! Your county! I'd ask what specific violation your braking then ask to have time to fix it.as I understand it if your county you can have chickens? What exactly is the issue? Noise? Smell? What? Ask to fix the issue and keep your chickens! You defiently have a right if your inside the county not city.is it zoning or what exactly is the violation for?

Yes, ask for a reference to the code you are in violation of. My guess is that it is not an allowed zoning use, but you need to verify that, and whether they ARE disallowed, and if not, if there are any restrictions.

Its a zoning issue we are zoned residential....crazy city city of concord,pleasant hill etc allow chx. half my neighbors have chx.........

I'd go ahead and make a case to keep your hens and point out that you are surrounded by agriculture and self sustaining people. There's no reason to exclude a neighbor who also wants to keep chickens

I'm so very sad for you! This is America and we can't have chickens on our own property if we want? This is so wrong! There is no changing the minds of those types of people either. I'm very saddened by your story! What is our world coming to when they allow people to grow pot for ” medical use" in there backyards yet we are criminals for having chickens! Something is very very wrong with this! Its a sad sad world we live in!

Your best bet is to work to change the ordinance. There lots of posts on here about doing just that. Get he laws changed them get chickens again! In the meantime, be the most annoying and pain in the *** neighbor you can possibly be. In hind site, you probably should have talked to your neighbors first. It is wrong that you can't have them. Sorry to hear it. Now get out there and start irritating those neighbors!
