HELP

My 9month old hen was attacked by my brothers dog on the 2nd. I took her to the vet where she received 6stitches between her 5 bite wounds. Well little miss decided to rip one of the stitches out by her neck and has continued to pluck and pick at the wound causing it to double in size. I had to start her antibiotics, and a cream from the vet but she continues to react this way. I know it itches, and I'm afraid if I take her back to the vet they will put her down because the hole is now too big to stitch.
Is there a spray I could use? Could I wrap a ace bandage around her neck? Or just put her down?
She is now a full fledged pet and inside. I can't see putting her threw much more. I am concerned if I wrap her neck it may get a serious infection from lack of air or she eats the stitching from the bandage. Please help

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

You might try getting a lose sock and put it over her head and down the neck. This will feel freaky to her at first, but it will work similar to the cone collars that dogs wear after surgery. It may take a while for her to stop fussing with it but eventually she will have to stop. If she can't bite at it, then hopefully it heals.

So sorry about your little hen. Can you post a photo of the wound so that we can better see the location and details to offer suggestions on how to best address the picking?
