Got nest boxes attached to the back...did a bit of changing up and added dust bath. Still have another roost to put back in since took out 2 shorter ones. Just not sure if I should put it low to the ground for my silkies, since they don't like to roost up high, if at all. That's also why I have a nest box almost on the ground cuz they won't go up into the higher ones. I'm hoping they will start to in new coop and I can take them out. Covered most of the roof today with water barrier roof material...adding rest and getting ready for drip edge...still not sure if will be shingles or metal on itView attachment 1151698 View attachment 1151698 View attachment 1151693

That looks really nice. I don't know anything about silkies, but if they don't roost I would think you might want a platform to get them off the ground a little. It snows where you live? Just thinking they might be colder on the ground than up a smidge.

the puppies got into a fight yesterday.
one got bit right next to his eye. today the eye
is swelled half shut and there is an abscess above that eye.
took him to the vet. drained two vials of blood, puss and fluid out of the abscess.
got a shot, a bottle of pills and said goodbye to a $100.oo bill..
the pup is staying in the house tonight. He is taking quite well to being spoiled.
the eye is still super painful.
a couple of years ago we had to put a puppy down due to a similar wound.

Sorry about your pups. What kind are they again?

They are Maremmas. I want one. Husband says i don't need another dog. Wrong as usual.

that's right, Maremma,..
that is the mother in the picture. she is about 85 pounds. the male is probably 10 pounds heavier.
the pup in the picture is about 6 weeks old.

the two pups we have left from the litter of 10 are about 35 pounds. they will be four months on the 15th Oct.

the injured pup stayed in the house all night.
he didn't want to, but he settled down.
his abscess drained all night and this morning his face was a sight to behold. but the swelling around his eye went down.
he is well on his way to becoming a house dog.
loves being petted and is an eager greeter.

today I have to go in to the VA for labs. I do it every month.

as long as I am all cleaned up, I should stop for an overdue haircut. I comes down to either a hair cut or a dog license ..

I can't remember the last time i got a haircut. My hair is about down to my waist. I was going to cut it off and donate to kids with cancer but i hate having short hair in winter so i will wait until spring.
Going to dig dirt to fill the low spot in the back corner of the run today. If i can drag myself out there.

I got the weak spot in the run secured with welded wire and put up a perch. The young birds are enjoying it already. 20171004_134345.jpg

good afternoon,
I have all the purlins on the south side on and the top row on the north side.
I made a jig for spacing the metal panels' overhang.
when working alone, you become a master at making jigs.. once in awhile I find one in the garage and wonder what it was for ??
kind of breezy to climb a ladder with a sheet of metal roofing. .
this morning I changed from short pants to blue jeans. who would have thought that temps in the 60's would feel this warm ??
the sun is hot and the air is cold.

I dug up a wagon load of dirt and dragged it up into the run and filled the biggest low spot. Then i dug 10 feet of trench and had to come in and cool off after feeding more branches to the fire. It is 77 out there today, but some of the work was in full sun. Also dug up the bunny poo i will be using for the flowers i am planting inside the circle of the circular drive. The rest of our holly plants arrived today, we are planting them as a screen for the new goat shed build. Husband thinks it will be built in a week. I think i will be lucky if it is done for Thanksgiving the way those guys work. Maybe even Xmas. Seems like everything is slow here, even me.
