we are not plowed out yet. Bob had to go to work for awhile at the car dealership. He is a mechanic there part time, second job.
So far this winter my pu truck is staying in
4wd.. We take it out only when it is nasT out.
GS Kalib made coffee this morning. I took one little sip and had heartburn for an hour.
I had him add again as much water..
It is drinkable now.
Aart, who is babysitting your house while you are babysitting someone else's ??

Good luck Jim and Aart with your snow, I'm so glad that is nearly unheard of here.

Temperatures in the 40s with lots of rain. All but two of the raised beds are built and we have a place with compost at a good price so we just need to get it delivered and then dumped into the beds. So time to start seeds inside the house and start looking for bare root plants. Blueberries, asparagus, and maybe strawberries to start with. Got to find my Jerusalem artichoke bulbs.

We have a bid for the rest of the fence and the gates and that is supposed to get completed some time in January. And we've decided to hire a local contractor to build the rabbit shed and the coop and run. Time just goes by so fast.

we got plowed out early, then we had two sets of company for awhile.
and a looong phone conversation with Annie's brother. gotta do that once in awhile.
Jerusalem artichokes . very invasive species.
I have been trying to eradicate them for decades .. just miss a piece of root and you have a whole new crop. like some kind of space alien ..

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Happy new year! I had champagne and cheese with crackers. Watched tv and worked on the Harry Potter quilt. It is coming along well.
Can't wait to see it!

Happy New Year all! We stayed up till 12 am but it wasn't easy. Going to make a batch of refried beans from scratch and if they're any good, freeze a bunch of bean n cheese burritos. Also going to sketch out the coop and run. Coop will be (at least) 5' x 8', and the run 8' x 24'. Should be plenty of room for 6 to 8 hens.

Ha, am doing the same today!
Well, cooked the beans a few days ago in the pressure cooker,
now need to for the 're-fry' part.
I've learned they really need.......pork fat!!
I like lean bacon, so render the fat and save for refries.

Oh, yeah, go bigger...8x8 to make most of lumber. Accept you'll need 'extra' for large roof overhangs.

Haven't stayed up until midnight on the 31st in years, haven't partied since 1999 :gig
Did stay up later than most any night to watch k.d. lang 2018 concert on pbs.

I used lard, a whole lot of it too. A pound of pintos, onions, serranos, a little chipotle powder, and half a cup of lard. They are delicious. Freezing burritos might be a dream, I think these will all get eaten.

We'll be using 8 footers, I plan to use the other 3 feet for storage and such. Planning on a big overhang due to the high circulating wind and rain storms here. Current plan is to make the entire back of the run a sold piece then set eyelets on the end and front so I can attach tarps depending on the wind direction. I was going to cover the top of the run with hardware cloth then put a slant roof above that for maximum ventilation but now I bet I'd have a constantly soggy run.
