Annie located, and I put a U post next to four of the wild grapes. As it turns out, they are in a straight line..I didn't expect that..
the grapes I planted last year are doing good. One of them has reached the top wire. I cut the tip off about a week ago and it is already sending shoots along the top wire in both directions. Plus there is also a shoot going along the lower wire.
Did I tell you that there were three yearling deer outside the kitchen window ? We suspect they are the ones that were born in our yard last year. No sign of the doe, yet

Thanks, i know she likes chickens because she keeps buying and hatching more.

No working outside today. I am putting my chef's hat on. Making a batch of cowboy beans and some mashed potato rolls. tomorrow we are going to a pot luck picnic with a group of old friends. this will be our twelfth annual picnic.
we had a sprinkle of rain at three PM yesterday. it didn't amount to very much .
I could use a good drenching to leach the fertilizer into the ground by my grapes and rhubarb.
Yesterday there was a black bear roaming in our daughter's neighborhood in town.
the news said to hollor and scare a bear away.
two weeks ago, a couple in Medford Wi saw a bear outside their window. They hollored at it and it charged through the window and bit both of them. It had cubs that they didn't see. whoops....

I am trying to move birds, clean brooders, and get ready for the swap tomorrow. And i get stung by a hornet! I take Benadryl, which always makes me tired. Sigh.

Yikes!

I hate Benedryl. I have to take it periodically, but I only take it at night because it knocks me out and leaves me feeling like I have a hangover.

I know, so you've been told.
the rolls are done, and the cowboy beans are baking. It smells really good in here.
Annie was right there so I drained the fat off of the bacon and hamburger. I can be a good boy when I have to..
I don't mind getting stung by a honey bee, but these paper wasps are savage. I don't take anything for bee stings.

I take Benadryl because i was stung by a nestful of yellowjackets when i was a kid. It helps keep the swelling down.

I found out last night that my next door neighbor has a huge black bear enjoying their bird feeders, deer feeders (all they can eat of what sounds like horse feed), and another neighbor's bee hives.

Where is the shake-your-head emoji. I'm actually less concerned about the bear than I am the deer. I've been over run by deer to the point of really noticeable damage to my forest understory - the only plants left are the few the deer least like. They are even eating the maple seedlings. I hope this means the neighbor will stop feeding the deer but so far they are hoping the state wildlife people will do something about the bear now that it is into the bee hives needed by ag.

as long as there is food available, the bear will stay around.
I had a bear walk up to our deck one morning while I was out there drinking my coffee. that was over ten years ago. He went back down to the river and stayed there.
IDK how long do they live ?
today is picnic day.
We slow cooked the beans all night. they are perfect.

I understand.
I worked with a guy who was allergic to bee stings. we were building a house. He carried a can of bee spray in his tool apron. I felt safe with him around . lolol
