yup, a gnarly storm for sure.
but the rain was welcome.
Now with the heat, the grapes are growing like crazy. I haven't checked on them for almost a week. I have lots of pruning and tying to do.
yesterday I ordered a hedge/grass clipper with an extended handle.
we are going to use it to keep the grass and weeds mowed among and next to the grapes. in this case, raspberries are the weeds.

Aren't grape vines only supposed to be pruned when dormant?
Maybe not for new ones?
Aart, you are generally correct.
but what I am trying to do is sort out a mess of wild unruly vines. cutting off unwanted shoots and selecting shoots to become main stems.
I let the leaves be, but remove shoots. leaves nourish the roots, shoots drain.
I will try to take a photo of the grapes as they are growing all over the place. they might not show up because they are growing among the grass and weeds.
So far, the pruning I have done hasn't hurt the vines.
