Depending upon your locale, the heat of summer can be a significant factor in the life of a chicken. The more ventilation you have, the better.
I don't entertain my chickens. They forage all day, so I let them find something to do. Generally, the day consist of eating, resting, dust bathing, eating, resting. Somewhere in the day, they find the time to go lay eggs. Yesterday, they watched a 3 foot black snake slither across the yard, under the coop, and into the neighbor's yard. The snakes help keep the chipmunk population down.
Sometimes, the rooster sneaks up behind my dog to peck him on the rear end. It is quite entertaining, but normally does not end well for the rooster.
