Well. I put eggs under my Silkie. They were call duck eggs. Day 26 was on Friday. Yesterday, day 28, only one egg pipped. This morning when I got up I checked on the egg, and there was no progress. So I peeled back the shell, and the membrane was all dry. I brough the egg in the house and peeled back the shell, then I took a q-tip and wet it with some warm water and wet the membrane. Then I continued to peel back the shell. All of the veins were sucked up and there was hardly any blood, at the end there was like a pin prick of blood. So then the duckling popped out and is doing great. I moved it into a forced air incubator to dry off. Its yolk is sucked up, I was worried that the yolk wouldnt be sucked up, but it was. The other 3 eggs were already dead, all through the air sac, I wish that I helped sooner. I will post pictures.

YAY!! Good job saving that little baby! Call ducks are hard to hatch anyway.....how many more to go? Have you given a listen to the others?

The other 3 eggs pipped through the air sac and died. I do have some gray calls due this thursday. And some due this friday, I think, mixed calls from a gray drake and white hen. I also have a broody call hen sitting on gray call duck eggs.

Oh boy - I have some call duck eggs in my bator right now - started with 23 and I'm hoping to get any of them to hatch and will see it as a success! Great job saving that one - I'm probably not experienced enough to be able to do that yet.

By the way - lovely area you live in. I was offered a job up that way last year as a equine nutrition specialist but I had just bought this house.

Such bad timing. A year earlier and I would've jumped at that chance.
