Hemmie passed away this morning

Oh them boys! How old is this little one? If less than 4 months I’d just let them live side by side till next January if by then she’s 5-6 months. Then see how they do together. Size doesn’t matter as much as age. I have a 15 lb Muscovy drake and his females are 4-5 lb. but you want her to be laying age before breeding starts.

She's just a little over 4 months. When I had them side by side he wouldn't chill and kept trying to get over in her space (I guess he thought he could flap through the metal? 🙄) so I had to put some space between them. They're about 4 feet apart, but are still always in each other's view. He's SUCH a boy. 😅 He has been a lot different, though, since Hemmie passed away. Cuddlier, more peppy, less territorial, not snippy at all, and more sociable. Yesterday, he decided to conquer the little garden fountain.

She loves to fly! She isn't quite big enough yet to fly as high as all of the other ducks, and she likes to fly around the little lake and have me come get her in the little boat, then ride around in the boat. It's fun except when she doesn't want to come in and it starts getting dark and cold!!!

She loves to investigate the other ducks, but they aren't interested in hanging out with her, so I try to stay near enough to make sure they don't attack her and to make sure she isn't all alone out there, especially with the hawks and whatnot. She also calls for me. Lol

Typical Diva;)

Hemmie, my little girl Australian Spotted, died quietly this morning, apparently in her sleep. She never showed any signs of distress or discomfort, never slowed in eating or playing or pooping. Her little lower tummy was still hard after she passed, and it looked like she had an internal prolapse. I'm hoping that Downey, the drake, will be okay and will make friends with the little wood duck female now. I'm really heartbroken, though.
😢
