My hen was on day 20 of sitting on 10 eggs. I was smelled something awful, like death awful. I got her up and lo and behold there was a crushed egg with an almost fully developed baby under her.
I had to remove that, naturally.
Unfortunately, I think she thought that baby was okay because she refused to get back in the nest. I thought she had, so I went on about my business. I went to check again, nope, she was laying in front of them.
They were without heat for 4-5, hours. It was around 80 degrees F outside.
I brought them in and put them in an incubator in hopes they would live. Only one egg was moving and chirping, and that egg hatched today. No other eggs are moving.
I’ve never hatched eggs, so I don’t know the first thing about it.
Is it likely if there were babes in the others that they passed being away from heat that long? Do they just not move until they’re coming out?
