Hen about to lay an egg!!??!!??

I just got home from work and one of the girls is in her nest box and looks somewhat distressed. This is very unusual for her. She is a light brahma 21 weeks old today and has been squatting for about 2 weeks. So is this just her laying her first egg or could it be something more serious? If its an egg, how long does the actual laying take?

It sounds like she is getting ready to lay. Don't be discouraged if you don't get an egg today. Mine "practiced" for a couple days before the egg came. They "practiced" the egg song sometimes too. My light brahma was really vocal the day she laid her first egg. Lots more bok bokking than normal.

I just checked on her again and she was walking around the coop for a little while and then walked out in to the run like nothing was wrong. So I guess you are right that she is just practicing. Thanks!
