Hen Acting Different Than Normal

It could just be the cold weather causing her to stand around fluffed up. My chickens are doing that, except for the five youngest who race around regardless. (Kids have no sense.)

I suggest you keep an eye on her over the next few days. Watch her behavior and her poop. Check her crop each night to be sure she's been eating, and check it in the morning to be sure it's functioning. If it's just the cold weather, she should perk up once we move out of this miserable cold.

I will keep that in mind while I watch her behavior. I know for sure that she is eating and drink everything that she can get her beak into. She does have a personality to the young chickens when they come around her. My rooster does not try to get with her at all (which is good with her age and his size). I am hoping she gets back to normal when the cold is over with.

I'm so sorry. Sometimes a hen has something we can't know about, and she won't give us enough clues to try to figure out what to do for her.

Thanks for everyone response on this form. Sadly my hen (the one in question) has passed away this afternoon.
I'm so sorry to hear about your hen. Chickens have a way of hiding when they are sick until it's too late to help them. They are good at that. I'm so sorry for your loss. No matter how many chickens you have, each one has it's own personality and to loose one makes a big difference in the flock and in your heart. So sorry. :hit
