I have recently acquired some silkie hens (auction), and after two weeks they still haven't laid a single egg (4hens). I'm beginning to think I may have gotten some old hens, but not sure how to tell. They seem healthy, fluffy, bright green-blue ear lobes, eating/drinking/foraging. Being fed layer feed with scratch mix. Nice coop that one of my banties lays in regularly. Any ideas out there?

those hens havent layed eggs because they are stressed.see catching an taking to a sale stresses them.then you bought them.an brought them to a new home they not uised to.give them time to adjust an they should start laying in a month or so.

Thanks for your reply...I'll try to be patient. Do you know if it takes silkies longer to adjust, since other chickens I've gotten (standard) didn't take so long? Also what is the best way to check for age (for an amateur) ?

adjustment times can be differant for all breeds.i wish i could help you more.most are settled in within a month.

All are laying now, thank you for reminding me to be patient!
