Hi everyone, I am fairly new to chickens and have 3 pekin bantam and 3 reds, they are all in good health but i have 1 bantam that is always on her own. She is bottom of pecking order and does gets picked on a bit so she would rather hang with us, coming into house and following us about. We spoil her a bit but i dont want her being lonely if we're not here.

I have a hen like that as well! It’s my black sex link, but I have roosters and for some reason she is there favorite. So she hangs out by herself, I feel so bad for her so we give her extra love! Following as well.

Not to worry. I have an Orpington that likes to be off on her own. She sleeps in the large coop many nights alone, while the others sleep in the doghouse, we converted. She often forages on her own too. The Cochin I have will hang out with her sometimes but that is her choice because the Cochin is at the bottow of the pecking order and the Orpington won't bother her. I used to have a Black Star that used to go off on her own too. Do you have a Rooster? If you don't that explains alot. Without a Rooster to keep them together they can tend to be more independent.

Thanks. I do have a rooster, hes also a bantam but he runs around trying to impress the bigger girls. She will sometimes go to him but hes a bit rough when she does so she ends up walking away again. Thinking shes getting bullied at night when they go back to coop which is why she doesn't want to be round them during day when they range. 🙁

I have a flock of pekins, they’re lovely little hens. The bottom of the pecking order seems to hang around by herself. On many occasions i’ve bought smaller hens and they’ve all joined the flock, leaving her on her own. I’ve come to the conclusion that she would just rather be on her own.
