Is the hen still laying? It's possible she's reaching henopause and out of whack hormones are influencing her behavior too.The Rooster is definitely starting the fighting. No one will back down. The hen is a 4 year old buff orpington....much bigger than he.
She is still laying but is 4 years old now. I have ordered another coop and as soon as it gets here he will be moving into that. I'm worried about him being by himself . Do you think I should get him a friend or 2 ?Is the hen still laying? It's possible she's reaching henopause and out of whack hormones are influencing her behavior too.
If it's been going on this long it doesn't sound like they will work it out so it's time for one or the other to move out. Either to another home or another pen.
Thank you! We will be putting the new coop next to the original one. And I really don't want him to be alone. He is totally fine with the other chickens. I think I will get him a few friends. I'm glad you agree. Thank you for your advice!I would get him 2 or 3 friends. Maybe you can find someone with bantam hens so he can have some friends his own size.
Until then if the new coop is next to the other at least he can see his old flock during the day and not feel isolated.
