Hello, I have 4 hens one barred rock(Petunia) one Buff Orpington(Rosey)2 Red and Blue Laced Wyanodottes (Ethel and Charolette) and one rooster Blue and Red Laced Wyanodotte (Mr.Jack). My delima here lately is that Jack and Rosey dont hit if off like he does with the other hens. They had prob;ems from the get go because she was the head hen so when he came along of course he assumed his man role. I have raised all of these from day old chicks. He did get his role. All of the Wynadottes are 1yr old where Rosey and Petunia are 2 or 2 and half yrs old. He is a WONDERFUL rooster other than the problem i am having with him and Rosey. He comes around and she starts making this sound um um um um um she is so scared of him. If he gets close to her she runs and makes that sound. The other hens dont do like that. He doesnt do his man thing to much (if you know what i mean). But he is mean to Rosey. She would rather hang alone than have to hang with them if he is with the other girls. They free range unless we arent here then they are in their pen which is the problem. Yesterday we were going out to eat it was before their bedtime so they would have to be in the pen for a while befor ethey went to bed. I put everybody up. Rosey starts making that sound and of course jack starts easing toward her so she drops to the ground lets him do what he is wanting to do. I am standing outside the pen and cant see on the other side of the coop. Mr.Jack comes walking out but Rosey doesnt so i walked to where i could see her and she is still sitting on the ground WILD eyed looking, like she is in shock or something i try talking to her she still sits there. I notice her tail feathers shaking so i know she is scared. Ok i went in side the coop walk over to her she gets up walks around he comes back over to her so she drops again to let him do what he usually does. This time insted of him doing that he just starts pecking her on the back of her head and yanks out a big wod of her feathers. She runs with fear. I am like no you arent going to treat her this way. I couldnt leave her in the pen with him and just leave knowing how he was treating her. So i took her and she stayed in my bathroom until we got home then i put her to bed with the rest. Another thing they like to sleep on top of the coop when its warm and i usually let them. Rosey will stay on top of the coop while everybody else is on the ground eating drinking. She is scared of him so she usually wont come down until i go out to tlet them out. What can I do. He is a great rooster adn all of my hens are great. They are all pets and Rosey is the biggest pet. Very lovong. What is causing this??????
